    Description

    This auction is for
    a metal/enamel number sign 5599 from an IRT (Interborough Rapid Transit) LoV class subway car.
    This item came from the LoV cars of the IRT subway, which were built in many waves by a few different builders (American Car & Foundry & Pullman- between 1915 and 1938. The last of them were retired and scrapped in the 1970s. A few still exist as part of museum collections, including the New York City Transit Museum and the Shore Line Trolley Museum in East Haven, CT.
    5599 was built by American Car & Foundry in 1925.
    This sign is 24 1/4 inches wide and 6 3/4 inches tall.
    Some surface rust & dings.  2 slight
    vertical
    scratches by the second 5.  Please see the photos for condition.
