Description:
This is a group of 6 each, rare and original slides to show subway trains in the New York City subway system, NYCTA. These only show R46 type of subway cars in their original design and not rebuilt. There are no R44 cars in this group.
Some of these cars are still in service today in 2022, but have been rebuilt and are not the same on the outside.
What is special about this group is that we have R46 cars that were delivered in 1976 in the red, white and blue Bicentennial design. There were only two cars that ran in that outer design, that was car numbers 680 and 681. This group has cars in passenger service, two photos on a 1977 fantrip and one photo of new cars being delivered on a boat at Hoboken, NJ.
Not easy to chase down the same two cars in the system that had that outside colorful design along the middle strip across the car and around the front. Usually had the dark blue stripe.
The photos are from the early days when R46 cars first arrived in service in 1975 and 1976.
This group has trains shown at locations in Brooklyn, Queens and Hoboken.
There are no older car types shown in any photos.
The years of the photos are only from 1976 and 1977.
These are all clean and no graffiti really to mention on the outside of any cars.
There are no other BMT or IND car types in this group.
all at outdoor locations: 6 total
On Fantrips: 2 each, one at Far Rockaway and Aquaduct station in Queens
In service: 2 each, one on the N line and one on the F at Stillwell Ave, Coney Island
in Hoboken on a barge: 1 each, side view of car 1776, later was renumbered
At 39st pipe yard in SBK Brooklyn: 1 each, leaving the yard and has diesel train in front.
Very clear photos and nice scenery for trains arriving in various stations and on fantrips.
We do not make any historical notes on the slide mounts, we trust the info to be accurate in all details regarding locations and dates.
