Description
Unique Ceremonial Guatemalan huipil from San Pedro Sacatepequez. Vibrant brocade featuring diamond, serpent, birds and geometric motifs. Embroidered braided trim along collar. This huipil is open at the sides so it can be worn as a poncho. One size fits all – but adjustments can be made accordingly. For example, you can close the sides, so you can wear your huipil in the traditional manner as a blouse. When you don’t wear your blouse, use it as a (wall) decorative – it’s stunning folk art! When it is opened up flat it is a complete square. See last photo.
This huipil consists of 2 joined sections called panels. Each panel measures 18”inches wide, total approximately 36 1/2”. Length 25”
This huipil is totally embroidery by hand using a back strap loom with the pre-Spanish brocade technique. Nowadays you can find machine embroidered huipiles which are cheaper but lack the uniqueness and individuality of those made by hand. DETAILS:

INSTRUCTION CARE: there is not a label on care but I have been told it can be hand washed. I am not certain and I did not wash it.
Hand wash separately, no bleach, mild detergent, hang to dry.
