Description

Rare early Hammond 1 Universal remodel typewriter. This machine is fully functioning and has been restored to mechanically working condition. All keys and the space bar operate smoothly, the hammer strikes the shuttle  and the carriage advances smoothly as it should. The ribbon advances as it should and it has the early narrower  7/16th ribbon spools, rather than the later common 1/2 inch spools. The composite key tops are all in perfect condition and all letters/numbers/symbols are clear and legible. The metal and rubber is in great shape and the wooden base and case have been lightly restored and refinished so this machine is fully display ready.
A Hammond 1 Universal is the scarcest of all Hammond typewriters with very few made.
This Hammond 1 is a Remodel with a very early serial number of 1216. The machine has the early generation frame, carriage, paper rack, and the small nickel plated platen knob found only on the very earliest machines.
The typewriter appears to be a transitional machine between a Hammond 1 and a 2 and would have been sent back to the factory prior to the release of Hammond 2's to have the turret and shuttle modified and updated.
This machine ships from Canada via Canada Post and will be very well packed and protected. There are no additional duties or fees however local sales taxes may be levied and collected by eBay.
