Centuries ago Altaian khomus used to be played by shamans only during the rituals. Later it became more available for people, musicians started to use it as a musical instrument. But still it was expensive and hard to find.
Our product is made at V. Potkin’s workshop – one of the founders of the first khomus workshop in Altai Republic, who popularized this instrument and made it more accessible for everyone.
Khomus by V. Potkin is famous by its high quality and great sound. Potkin’s workshop has been occupied with making khomuses for over than 30 years.
And now khomus is not only a musical instrument but it’s also quite popular as a souvenir.
SOUNDING
Khomus has a specific sounding created by vibrations of reed, frame and oral cavity. The sound of khomus is determined by performer’s articulation.
