Description:
This is a group of 8 rare, original slides to show subway trains in the New York City subway system, NYCTA. These are only showing R1 to R9 type of subway cars in their original design and not rebuilt. Only two slide shows these cars in the silver & blue paint scheme and one is a layup photo close up at Atlantic Ave.
The trains are shown at locations in Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens.
Those cars were all made prior to WW2, mostly in the 1930's and the last of those cars
ran into March 1977. These are very popular cars to recall if you rode the subway system from 1977 and prior. This is a group of good quality slides in the last decade they ran in service in the 1970's for many of them.
There are some other car types shown in some photos where they are on another track next to the R1 and R9 cars. You have R30's and R38's...you get extra trains shown sometimes.
Mostly you get R1 to R9 cars in various car numbers..
The years of the photos are only from 1969 to 1973
Some of the photos are in regular service, one is a middle track layup photo at 111st and two photos are layups at Atlantic Ave in Brooklyn.
There is one yard photo where trains are lined up as "LL" in Canarsie yard.
The IND subway lines these cars are running on are on the: D, HH, M,
These are all clean trains and no graffiti really to mention on the outside of any cars.
at outdoor stations: 7 total, at Marcy Ave, 111st, Stillwell Ave, HH is at Rockaway Park
at indoor stations: 1 total, at 59st on a D train
Very clear photos and nice scenery for trains arriving in various stations.
We do not make any historical notes on the slide mounts, we trust the info to be accurate in all details regarding locations and dates.
