    Description

    This extraordinary Huipil was
    Handwoven
    on a
    Backstrap Loom
    in the community of
    San Bartolo Yautepec
    on the coast of
    Oaxaca
by a very talented weaver, Matilde Hernandez.   The intricate patterns are all woven into the fabric and not
embroidered.   Look closely at the detail photos, you will see deer, birds, plants, corn as well as geometric patterns.
    The colors in this
    light weight 100% cotton
    top are
all natural.  The Scarlet / Pink is a Cochineal dye which is made from dried insects that live on Cactus. (see picture #5) Cochineal dye has been
made and used for hundreds of years in Mexico, and is still made by indigenous peoples in Oaxaca.
The Blue is an Indigo dye that is produced
from the leaves of the Indigofera plant and is also still produced in the same way for hundreds of years...
It measures; 23 1/2 inches wide (47 inches around) and 27 inches long.  It will fit a Medium Size Woman.
