New NYC OMNY Card —METROCARD Successor— Collectible (or Usable) in New York City

The OMNY card is the official tappable “contactless” successor to the NYC METROCARD in use since 1993, which itself threw tokens into obsolescence shortly thereafter.
These are brand new, hence this is basically the original mass release of OMNY card packets, as shown unopened, now sold at the ubiquitous “gift cards” rack in many city stores.

I am selling this as an unopened COLLECTIBLE item first and foremost, particularly for transit card enthusiast collectors who aren’t based themselves in NYC but want to show off this major milestone card in one of the world’s biggest networks. The very basic black and white original aesthetic will become a springboard for future designs no doubt, but an original release a key point in any collection and now is the time to add one before they do implement design or functional updates.
Full disclosure: If you do choose to buy this as a collectors item, a gift, or for personal use, it was purchased for the upfront card cost and loaded, with .00 (the minimum option at any point of sale). It hasn’t been opened or registered (and it can’t be without the codes only visible once the case is opened). That part is entirely on you.
I have every reason to believe all cards are properly functional and should be far more reliable than the notoriously subject to instantaneous failure magnetic swiping cards it replaces. If you are planning a trip to NYC, here is your chance to have an OMNY card in hand ready to go, instead of one more thing to worry about and wait on line for when you get off your plane or train.
Right now the OMNY works on all MTA subways, tramways, and buses just like the Metrocard, including for transfers. We are hoping it rolls out to the MetroNorth, LIRR, Path, Ferries (besides the free ones), NJT, and perhaps even more transit modalities over time.
