Vintage NYC Subway number plate from Car #349.
Made of fiberboard, some R-44 New York City subway cars were fitted with this type of number board as opposed to metal or stainless steel. Measures 21 1/2" x 8".
A total of 352 R-44 cars were ordered from the St. Louis Car Company (built between 1971 and 1973); 300 cars for the New York City Subway (numbered 100–399, with 278 of the cars later renumbered 5202–5479) and 52 cars for the Staten Island Railway
