    Description

No wonder Frida Kalho loved wearing Tehuana hiupils.  They are world-class works of art, especially like this traditional one, in hand-embroidered velvet.  T
his is a particularly fine example, since the artisan showed off her skill and finesse hand embroidering an array of extravagant cotton flowers.  It probably dates to the 1990's.  Made and worn by the majestic Tehuana women from the isthmus of Tehuantepec in Oaxaca, no two huipils are ever the same.  This wine-red velvet is a very collectible standout.
The huipil is in excellent, clean condition.  The front and back have identical flowers and composition.  It is fully lined (please see photos), with finished seams. The second photo from the end shows where it was let out on the sides, which is common. The sewing is tidy and barely visible.  A huipil is meant to be worn a little loose.
    Size (flat across the front):
    25-inches wide
21-inches length from shoulder to bottom edge
