Description
This is a very rare find, you are viewing a PATCO Subway Map that is engraved on a durable Formica Like material that was used inside the walls of the Trains. This map was cut out from the wall of a BUDD VICKERS Subway Train built in 1969 for the Delaware River Port Authority and PATCO ( Port Authority Transit Corp. ) and Framed in a Aluminum Frame by Patco. There were only 120 of these cars built. In 2013 the cars were refurbished with new interiors by Alstom. Some of the maps were removed at the request of Patco, for employees only as tribute to the older cars. The maps were never available to the public. What makes this map even more special, are 3 distinct features. 1.) the map shows part of the old Locust Street subway that was operated by the PRT Philadelphia Rapid Transit System, later the PTC Philadelphia Transportation Company, and by SEPTA. The stations from 16th and Locust Street to City Hall in Camden was known as the Bridge line. It was the shortest subway system in the world with only 7 station stops. 2.) the second distinct feature is the map shows the old Abandoned Franklin Square station that was closed in the 1970’s. The trains bypass the station. And only stop there to let off or pick up maintainers.
This map is the original PATCO speed-line map. The Patco line was an extension of the old Locust Street Subway ( aka the bridge line) with station stops after City Hall in Camden New Jersey to Lindenwold. The Patco Speed Line was built over a portion of the remaining Pennsylvania Seashore lines right of way.
There is a tremendous amount of history in this beautiful subway map.
The vintage green color was the color of the interiors of the old cars.
Would make a great addition to a Home, Office, Museum, Train Room, or Man Cave.
